What Is An Ego Death on Shrooms?

What is an ego death on shrooms?

Experiencing the death of one’s ego is a very intimate, personal and liberating experience that causes a complete shift in the psychological, spiritual and soul essence of a being. This “death” to the ego invokes a form of transcendence within the individual that can serve as a catalyst for positive personal growth, spiritual elevation and alignment with the higher self, as well as being an aid in cultivating a deeper appreciation and connection to life itself.

But how exactly does shrooms induce an ego death?

According to Science Alert, Psilocybin Mushrooms activate a neurotransmitter in the human brain’s cortex called Glutamate, which is known for transferring information and signals quickly and efficiently to various different parts of the brain, including the Hippocampus, which is believed to play a role in the development of self-esteem, AKA the ego. When psychedelics are ingested and activate this area of the brain, one may experience a positive ego dissolution. This is because the psychedelic properties momentarily decouples regions of the brain, separating factual information and autobiographical experiences from one’s sense of personal identity.

So how does this separation influence me and my ego?

Well, essentially, you experience death to life as you know it.

From the moment we are born, we are conditioned and shaped by our parents, family, upbringing and our environment as a whole. Whether we consciously realize this or not, all the experiences that we have gone through since birth have a DIRECT influence on the choices we make, the relationships we spark, our thought process and who we identify ourselves as. When the experiences of an individual are separated from the identity, you enter a temporary state of autobiographical amnesia; a state of mind in which one completely transcends the constraints of all biographical conditioning. In other words, the individual completely forgets who they “are”. Although this amnesia occurs, the individual is still awake, functional and maintains an awareness of “human-ness” but without the bias and social conditioning that was once placed on the ego. The individual can momentarily see the separation of the self from one’s experiences, while simultaneously gaining an intuitive understanding of the interconnectedness of everything in life. This coupled with the light, airy, pleasant and free-flowing feelings that an ego death is usually described to induce, makes way for cultivating a fresh, new outlook on life.
